Guarantee
All goods purchased from us are guaranteed from manufacturing defects (this does not include any natual characteristics of the wood as described below, or any that result from normal ‘wear and tear’ which varies from home to home) for 12 months from the date of purchase. Any defects must be reported to Blackmill Furniture Limited as soon as possible and we will either make good or, if required, replace the item.
Please Note:
- None of the above affects the customer’s statutory rights.
- New wooden furniture supplied by different manufacturers may display differences in colour and finish. Much of this variation will disappear over a period of time due to the effect of air and daylight.
- All woods have their own natural characteristics that some may call blemishes or imperfections. However these natural features such as knots, grain pattern and colour variations and small cracks are the very things that make the furniture beautiful and individual and are not considered to be defects.
Caring for your furniture
- Avoid extreme temperature and humidity. Try not to put your furniture too close to radiators or in steamy rooms.
- Daylight also has an effect on wood, so it is best to move any ornaments or objects that have been in
place on the furniture for any length of time as this will leave a lighter patch of wood which will take time
to mellow down and disappear.
- Clean only using a soft cloth. For stubborn marks use a very slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Do
not leave any moisture on the surface.
- Dry and mop up any spillage immediately.
- Always use thick, well insulated mats or stands when placing hot items on the furniture surface.
Finish Care
Lacquer - Lacquer finish is harder wearing than wax and has a sheen that highlights the grain and colour of the wood. It is usually heat resistant, but it is still advisable to use mats and coasters when placing hot items on the furniture. It can repel spills easier, although these should be cleaned up as soon as possible using a soft cloth. Small amounts of furniture polish can be used in moderation on lacquered furniture; however do not use chemicals, abrasive materials or cleaners. If you accidentally damage or scratch the surface you may want to rub some solid wax polish into the area to repel moisture.
Wax (mainly pine) - Waxed furniture has a soft finish that requires a little more care and attention. Dust with a clean dry cloth and periodically apply natural beeswax using grade OOO wirewool to 'feed' the wood to prevent it from drying out and cracking. Always use coasters and mats when placing objects on the furniture. Do not use furniture polishes or sprays on waxed furniture.
Oil (mainly oak) - The oil finish should be kept dust free using a lint free cloth and wiped in the direction of the grain. After a while, you may notice that the wood starts to look dull and dry. This can be rectified by using either Danish oil or boiled linseed oil applied with a soft cloth or sponge.
